The MMUS CFO will report to MassMutual’s CFO.
The successful applicant will work with the leadership teams of MassMutual U.S. (U.S. insurance businesses) and Corporate Finance and Strategy to provide high quality information to facilitate key financial decisions about the MMUS business.
The MMUS CFO is expected to:
Support decision making with strategic financial guidance for MMUS businesses through clear analysis that draws out key performance drivers and indicators and the ability to articulate principal findings in an actionable format;
Timely sharing and interpretation of MMUS’s financial plans and policies, application of accounting practices, maintenance of fiscal records and the preparation of financial reports;
Active participation in driving MMUS business goals and initiatives to a successful outcome with responsibility for business and profitability modeling and forecasting;
Clear communication and liaison efforts between Corporate Finance and the MMUS distribution channel heads; and
Proactively bring strategic finance thought partnership through best-in-class financial expertise to ongoing tactical and strategic business initiatives as well as insights from industry
CFO, Head of MMUS Business, and peers on Senior Leadership Teams of MMUS and CFO
The MMUS CFO will be responsible for these specific deliverables and responsibilities:
Provide strategic guidance to support decision making within MMUS businesses
Develop key business/financial metrics that are aligned with MMUS’s strategic direction and initiatives, in consultation with MMUS business heads;
Analyze financial performance to timely and clearly recommend steps to ensure financial and growth targets are met; and Advise the Head of MMUS regarding all financial aspects of the U.S. insurance businesses.
Drive the strategic financial planning and performance review for MMUS in coordination with Corporate Finance
Create business cases and models to evaluate business opportunities,
Evaluate strategic plans for non-performing business units in coordination with Corporate Finance;
Manage MMUS’s financial planning and budgeting process and in coordination with Corporate FP&A; and Develop and regularly update accurate financial forecasts and reports for senior management in MMUS and Corporate Finance, highlighting variances to senior management to enable timely response.
Bring the appropriate knowledge, information and expertise to bear in making decisions. Evaluate costs, risks and benefits of alternatives; critically and logically build financial and /or non-financial analytical models that drive fact-based decision-making.
Advise on short and long-term financial management goals and objectives including initiative tracking.
Coordinate and/or direct special projects or analyses as may be assigned.
Inspire, lead and execute on CFO 2020 finance transformation initiatives across Corporate Finance and within the MMUS financial areas including data-driven financial analysis, automated reporting, optimizing product and sales mix, evaluating financial trade-offs of contemplated business actions, and encouraging development of staff and processes to support agile and analytical thinking
Communicate effectively with internal and external business clients and constituencies.
Liaise with internal business departments and support a culture of service or proactive solutions and team support.
Build team relationships across other MMUS business segments.
Represent the organization at meetings, conferences and projects in the area of financial management. Maintain effective working relationships with applicable personnel, external auditors, attorneys and other parties.
Execute on select business and holistic CFO2020 priorities to further develop trusted partnerships
Corporate Finance Transformation
Maintain a relentless focus on the customer and recommending financially-based solutions to further goals of business partners.
Optimize processes to eliminate waste and efficiently deliver timely, high quality results.
Empower associates to drive value-added activity and growth.
Embrace MM Way and lean principles to build operational efficiencies. Establish best practices and process improvements, which support goal of improving service/operations delivery models while reducing unit costs.
Identify and monitor key performance metrics. Utilize developing technologies and team input to enhance key performance metrics in support of service levels and efficiency.
Look for needed changes to improve processes, systems and results. Implement actions and build accountability in support of change. Ensuring continuous improvement and controls over key processes.
Experience in management consulting, financial management and/or corporate strategy department at a Fortune 500 company
Preferred: MBA, CPA, FSA and/or similar professional designation
Experience includes leading medium size high caliber teams
High degree of financial acumen (accounting, finance and economics)
Able to convey complex materials to senior executives
Ability for indirect influence
Understanding and experience with management deliverables with passion and energy
Demonstrable experience with creative problem-solving
Excellent verbal and written communication ability
Exceptional relationship building skills
Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple deliverables
Ability to travel between Boston and Springfield at least one to two days/week
Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future
